Dolce and Gabbana releasing Hijab range!

When I first heard about this I was a bit shocked. You don't normally - if ever - hear about brands doing this sort of thing so it did come as a bit of a surprise. However, I'm so excited it has. Muslims make up 22% of the population, 5 of which comes from the UK. It's only right that they should be able to indulge in luxury items too without feeling like they're being judged, or not being able to because it doesn't fit in with what they can and can't wear because of their religion. The collection premiered on Style.com/Arabia and it features a range of veils and outer garments in a neutral colour palette.
There are brands that are increasing their presence in the Middle East, for example Chanel's Cruise 2015 collection in Dubai. But it's not just brands catering for the Arab world, they're doing it for Muslims all over the globe. Uniqlo has also released a hijab range which came out last year and H&M casted a Muslim model.
The question is though, is this a sign of progress within society, or just another market for brands to go into? I'm all for them trying to make a change and increase awareness that we need to be more equal and cater for everyone, but a bit skeptical as to why they're doing it. Being in the fashion industry you have to keep growing in order to get bigger and stay relevant and this could just a stunt to stay popular and known. Nonetheless, I'm excited to see how the collection will turn out and if more brands are going to follow their footsteps.
