FCP - colour project

16:11

The first type of project we had to do on the course was to do with colour. The choice of a colours a brand uses is so important, yet I didn't realise how important until doing this project. There's so much thought that goes into a colour scheme whereas I usually just choose colours I like and roll with it.

We were put into groups of 4 and had to create a colour chart and then make something to do with the chosen colours. It wasn't just a simple case of just 'go and make something' we had to think about the narrative we were trying to communicate and then go out and find props that helped add to the effect of it. After that we then had to photograph it and present it to the class (which was verrrrry scary). My group decided to do something to do with monochrome colours. We worked primarily with Grey's, silvers and blacks to create our product.

For the materials we used shiny metallic card, feathers, paint, string, cut up candle and a hanger. The main idea behind it was to make it look quite industrial like because the colours we chose is often found on an industrial site.

We wanted to take the pictures in the dark to give it that gloomy, dark effect. Alternatively we could have used Photoshop to edit the picture to give it the effect but we thought if we created it ourselves it would look a bit more raw and give it that edge.

This was our final image. We literally just cut up all the materials we had and hung them from string and off a hanger. For the final image we wanted to create the illusion that we had created a massive prop and that it covered the whole wall. Many people picked up on that when we presented it so that was like an achievement for us. It's amazing what you can produce and how you can manipulate pictures by just changing the angle that you use.

I really enjoyed this project and can't wait to move onto the next one.
